Personal Bio
In the Richmond Community Schools School Based Clinic and Union Schools (Modoc) School Based Clinic
I work with students, staff, and their immediate households to provide primary care and urgent care needs. I also do sports physicals at both locations. I have built a rapport with students and staff to encourage them to use our services to meet their healthcare needs and our locations make it more convenient and easier for them to utilize our healthcare services. Before I became a nurse I taught in special education and kindergarten in an elementary school. I worked as a CNA at a skilled nursing facility while I finished my RN program. After that I worked for 5 years as an RN in long term care/skilled nursing along with home health care. I worked for 2 years in critical care at Fayette Regional Health System in Connersville, IN and then moved to progressive Care at Reid Health for about 6 years where I provided mainly Cardiac and Stroke care and also as an RN on a COVID unit during the pandemic. This is my first position as a family nurse practitioner.
I received my Bachelors in Science in Education at Ball State University in 2000 and then transitioned to healthcare by earning an Associates in Science in Nursing at Ivy Tech in 2010. From there I went on to earn my Masters in Science in Nursing at Ball State University in 2019 to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.
I chose to come to Meridian for the School Based Clinic setting because it was an opportunity to return to the school setting in a different capacity than teaching. I chose nursing because I have always been fascinated with the functioning of the human body. I found in my transition from teaching to nursing that there is a lot of overlap between the nursing and teaching professions. I chose to become a nurse practitioner to help fill the need for primary care providers as well as utilize my knowledge and teaching skills by working in the outpatient setting improve access to healthcare in my community.
My main goal is to provide individualized care to all patients and work them collaboratively. I hope that my patients and their caregivers feel respected for who they are and that they received competent care from everyone in the office.
